For the 5th year running CBFNigerians is posting that all our adult breeding stock is CAE Negative. I called WADDL today to pay for my tests and they said my results were in - we are
all negative. So Storm, Joie, Tirzah, and Miss Priss were the only goats currently over 6 months of age that got tested. I still need to test Kokoro, Stars, and Coral to make sure they are - since they are all out of CAE neg. mom's I have no doubts that they are fine. We are really starting to get excited about breeding season now. I also learned that my new digital scale for milk testing is in and calibrated and I can begin Milk Testing other herds. NOW, I need to see if I can afford to 305 day test my herd next year - I sure hope I can! It would be so exciting to be able to begin to get AR designations on my doe herd. I also am waiting on pins and needles in hopes that our hay comes in before the rain from the Hurrican off of Baja comes in.......I was hoping today but didn't get the call - I hope he calls tomorrow morning so we can get our hay done before it rains. Oh, and tomorrow is our 16th Anniversary - WOW!!!! What an incredible 16 years we've had - I won't even begin but seriously - WOW!!!!
Well, off I go to get dinner fixed.

Update on Goats.
We finally have all the tests done on all the goats: All goats have tested NEGATIVE for CAE.
Joie, Miss Priss, Dixie and Malina were also tested for Johnne's and are NEGATIVE. The reason why the other goats weren't tested for Johnnes is that I didn't own them at the time and they were all tested for CAE before they came on my property so we will get tests on Storm, Narnia, and of course little Tirzah in the spring (Tirzah isn't done at all because she's too young).
We believe that all the does are bred now except Tirzah who is too young to be bred yet.
Due dates are as follows:
1. Narnia - Due March 1, 2oo9 For Boer/Alpine crosses - NONE FOR SALE
2. Joie de Vivre - Due March 24, 2009 to PiddlinAcres KR TapDance
3. Twinkle Lil Star -Due March 26, 2009 to PiddlinAcres H Calm the Storm
4. Whistling Dixie - Due March 27, 2009 to PiddlinAcres H Calm the Storm
2 Does and 2 wethers are reserved already out of these 3 does - I may have a limited number of does and wethers for sale. NO BUCKS available this year.
5. Miss Priss - Due May14th, 2009 to Piddlin Acres H. Calm the Storm for Mini Oberhaslis - does will be available but no bucks/wethers
6. Tirzah - will be bred in March to Lost Valley ML Nekoda *S of PrairieWood Ranch if all goes according to plan. You can see pics of Nekoda on the Herd sires page of Prairie Wood Ranch website -links on top left of the blog page.

Fall
yes, Fall is upon us here at the mini homestead. We are making cheese almost daily, canning/freezing/drying are in full swing - here in NM the smell of roasting green chilis is in the air. I am guessing it is about time to be thinking about who to breed to whom......
Our tentative plans are Willow will visit Prairie Wood Huckleberry a blue eyed black and white Studmuffin (PrairieWood Player X MCH Lost Valley KW Orion *S). Joie is going with our own little man CBF Entei (Prairie Wood Sweet Shalom X MCH Lost Valley KW Orion*S) before he leaves to do some breeding at another farm and then is up for sale. CBF Chikorita, Entei's sister is possibly going to Prairie Wood Dreamer (Prairie Wood Calico X MCH PrairieWood Pinnacle Blues) or Lost Valley Tae Bo's Reflection (Lost Valley Only Time Wil Tell X MCH Lost Valley Tae Bo) OR Prairie Wood PuttinontheRitz (MCH MK Abital OB X Kaapio Acres BT RAcketeer). And Miss Priss will go to a Local Oberhasli buck. We won't be breeding Shihara until much later (April OR in the fall of 2oo8) depending on her size and readiness so we aren't making plans on that yet. If you are interested in any of the breedings posted, we will begin taking reservations in NOVEMBER. A $50 non refundable deposit will hold your doe until birth - please specify first and second choices. Right now we are NOT planning on keeping any boys as bucks to sell so reserve does ONLY. IF you are interested in CBF Entei feel free to contact me, he will be available this winter. We will be keeping a few does this year so availability will be limited.
