O is for OBERHASLI

O is for Oberhasli. This is the first breed of goat we got into at CBF. I loved their beautiful coloring and smaller size as well as their generally calm, quiet disposition.
We bought a doe named Praline first- boy was that a mistake. That goat's milk was ICK! and she really wasn't great quality. Then we bought Rita - who had great milk but wasn't a huge improvement conformation wise but at the time we weren't showing much so we didn't care.
Rita was pregnant with two does; Miss Priss and Licorice. Both does were black and Miss Priss immediately crawled in my lap and well - she's still HERE!!!! Yep - this skinny, black, goofy goat is Miss Priss. She has great milk and makes lots of it. And despite the fact that we have a hard time putting weight on her, we love her. She may be here until she dies (we tried selling her once and she didn't eat or drink for 4days and the new owner said COME GET HER). Darn goat.
She is good with the Nigies and keeps us in milk most of the year. So far she has had no problems birthing and we just adore her quirky personality.
WE think Oberhaslis are by far the next best thing to Nigerians.......and for my hubby she is Numero Uno. Oberhasli's are another Swiss breed of goat and were derived from the Alpines. Black is okay for does but not for bucks. They are generally quiet and sweet personality-wise.
Their milk is lower in butterfat than most other breeds. Most Oberhaslis come in Chamoisee coloring (Red brown with black legs, face, belly and dorsal stripe. )

Oberhasli's are HERE!

This is a little late (two weeks actually) but we are welcoming CBF Shadow and CBF Butch Cassidy.
Shadow is the first pic and Butch the second. They are some of the nicest Oberhaslis we've had so far. Beautiful perfect color, Nice long backs. Both are for sale for $100 (buck intact). IF Butch is not sold as a wether by 6 weeks he will be wethered and up for sale for $50. Nice calm personalities and quiet. Amazing. Their dad is the son of a National Grand Champion and their mom is my mega milker. Last year we were getting 1.25 gallons per day and she is a three year old 3rd Freshener.

The Girls are Back in Town

Last year, with a heavy heart, I sold two of my Oberhasli doelings, well, they are back. The owner was unable to keep the girls and they came home. It's fun seeing them back in the pen though I had not planned to have any more big goats. I'm still trying to figure it out. Anyway the one in the back is Joyfull Surprise and the one in the foreground (I apologize and will post a better picture later) is La Dolce Vita. They are out of Anglen Farms Rita and Vassajara's Vito. Looks like we might have more Oberhasli's next spring. So, if anyone is interested, let me know. I have promised a doeling or two to the last owner but anything else is up for grabs.

Little Miss Priss

This is Miss Priss, our lean mean milking machine. She is our last remaining Oberhasli. She was also the first baby goat born on our property. We bred her last year and got two bucks and tons of milk (1 gallon a day as a first freshener) and she is bred this year to the Nigerian buck "Buckshott" for mini Oberhaslis. We expect her milk to increase - but that's okay, we have lots of uses for all that milk - ice cream, cheese and lots of SOAP which we will hopefully sell tons of this year. If you are interested in SOAP, please contact me at deannabaca@aim.com or NMgoatgal@gmail.com (serious buyers only).
